Phase One has announced what it claims to be the world's smallest and lightest 80 megapixel medium format aerial camera - the iXU 180.

The camera has a body barely wider than its lens barrel and weighs less than 950 grams, yet has an 80 MP CCD sensor.

With the growth in popularity of high-resolution 3D city models, this camera will be ideal for many as it can be integrated into small oblique systems that can fit inside a gyro mount, which creates the potential to create an easier path to obtain a supplemental type certificate (STC).

The camera is easily integrated into new or existing setups with its USB 3.0 connectivity for storage and control, as well as direct communication to GPS/IMU systems.

The Phase One iXU 180 will be available from mid-April 2015, and forward motion compensation is available as an option. More information is available at their website.
