So proud to be The Guild's Documentary Wedding Photographer of the Year 2014.
I shoot each wedding with a timeless, classic style that reflects the feel of your day- so if your wedding has a touch of Hollywood glamour, rustic vintage or a country fair feel then I will celebrate this in my photography so that twenty years from now, when you show people your album, the photographs will still be fresh, beautiful and relevant, not dated, or " of their time…"
Creating timeless, classic images feeds my creativity so spending some time together with you alone as a couple on your wedding day is intrinsic to the way in which I work. For me, it's about creating artistic images against the backdrop of that special place in which you have chosen to marry or hold your reception.
Always preferring to capture the close relationship between family and friends and those special moments which can't be recaptured, I work quietly and unobtrusively, always watching and (most importantly for a photographer) anticipating what will happen next. Yes, I am always happy to take some group shots and will advise you how to fit these into your photography without them taking up too much time on your wedding day.
I am definitely a 'people' person, one of my greatest pleasures has been to watch the families I have photographed over the past nine years grow up.
Eschewing white backgrounds and veering away from the term "lifestyle photography" I encourage clients to think carefully about how their finished pictures will look; I love art, enjoy visiting galleries and draw inspiration from artwork as well as editorial, magazine photography. My collection of photographic art books is a constant source of pleasure; exposure to art and photography keeps me fresh, allows me to appreciate what looks and feels right and heavily influences the way I shoot.
Whilst endeavouring always to capture my subjects' personalities, my aim is to combine these natural shots with a degree of artistic interpretation so there is a fine art feel to the finished image. I carry this approach through from taking the photograph and afterwards into post production. These are the signature Suzy Mitchell images!
