I moved to the Lake District back in 1999 and was inspired by the beauty of the spectacular and ever changing landscapes. I began exploring and taking numerous photographs; this often involved early morning trips to capture some amazing views that can only be seen at either sunrise or sunset. What better excuse for enjoying the fantastic scenery and to get out on the fells walking or wild camping? I do this whenever the opportunity arises, always with a camera in hand. I feel very privileged to have been able to turn a hobby into a profession and I love capturing those special moments. Being one of my biggest critics, I am constantly striving to provide the highest level of quality service for my clients.
My first wedding shoot as a professional was in 2005 and, since then, I have covered more than 400 ceremonies. In 2013, I was the only Cumbrian photographer to be shortlisted for the national Wedding Industry Awards and I've been nominated again for 2014. They're proud moments but I'm not complacent - I am always looking for ways to become even more creative, giving brides and grooms the pictures that they will cherish for a lifetime.
I've trained with some world-class photographers, including the highly-acclaimed Chris Chambers, as well as Jeff Ascough, a Canon ambassador who was voted one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world, and the internationally-renowned Edmond Terakopian.
Photographing weddings will always be my first love, but I also work for the broadcast media and some corporate clients, including the BBC, ITV, Bentley, National Trust, Pirelli, The Times and The Irish Independent. It can be a lot of fun, particularly when I'm invited to shoot events like the World Rally Championships – and I've even photographed David Cameron! It's fantastic to see my work being valued and continuing to evolve and every day I am motivated in many ways to continue doing what I love.
Personally, I love competing in sport especially running and triathlons. 2015 will be a busy year, along with quite a few local races I will also be taking part in some larger events on the calendar. The first of these this year will be the London Marathon in April and I'll be hoping to beat my previous marathon time, but my main focus will be 5 weeks later when I will be competing at the Ironman 70.3 in Stafford. Apart from being a wonderful way to keep fit and healthy, I firmly believe that it's a great way for me to stay focused on my business and certainly helps with the concentration levels and stamina required for photographing weddings!
